We regret that we cannot accept Bus on Us applications at this time. Please apply for an Explore Award instead. 11/9/2016
Bus on Us grants help with transportation costs for visits to one or more of the following Hyde Park sites:
- Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site
- FDR Presidential Library & Museum
- Home of FDR National Historic Site
- Top Cottage, Roosevelt’s cottage retreat
- Vanderbilt Mansion
Remember–there is no admission fee for school or youth groups visiting national parks and historic sites.
Hyde Park has a lot to offer all grades and subject areas, but we know that all the history, culture, and nature in the world don’t do students or teachers much good if they can’t get here. That’s why the National Park Service and the FDR Presidential Library created this program. View or download a list of programs.
Who Can Apply
K-12 and community college educators in public and not-for-profit private schools and not-for-profit after-school, summer, or youth programs may apply. Teachers in the same school or district may apply together. We aim to distribute funds equitably throughout the region considering per student and total costs and keeping in mind that needs and resources vary.
No matches are required, but we encourage applicants to use Bus on Us to extend or leverage other opportunities with other funders such as:
BOCES, DonorsChoose, Target, and community foundations such as the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley serving Dutchess, Putnam, and Ulster counties; Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan; The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region serving Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, and Saratoga counties; and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation serving Columbia and eastern Dutchess.
Please note: teachers who receive a grant may apply again the following school year, but will be expected to raise at least part of the cost from another source. Applicants will not be eligible a third year.
