The purpose of the trip is for the students to have an introduction to the significant role the Hudson Valley--specifically, people and places along the Hudson River--played in the history of the beginning of our nation. It also serves as a sensorial introduction to the many forms of water transportation and commerce that developed in the area along the Hudson. The students will learn about the creation of the Delaware and the Hudson Canal, and its effects on trade, commerce and the various immigrant groups in the Rondout area as a result of its construction.
