Maximum available points if all elements are present
Partnership 20 points: Project and proposal model effective, realistic school-site collaboration. And, both parties (1) worked on proposal, (2) will use materials developed, (3) committed time and/or other resources, and (4) will have meaningful role in development and implementation.
Design 20 points: (1) Project has clear theme and purpose; (2) Learning goals are plainly expressed and tied to standards, essential questions, or other foundation for learning; (3) Project is age appropriate; (4) Project is creative and consistent with THV’s goals; (5) All requested information is well organized and clearly presented.
Connections 15 points: (1) Links between curriculum and place(s) to be visited are effectively described; (2) How sites and their staff expertise will deepen or broaden learning is explained; (3) Plans go beyond stand-alone field trip(s).
Budget 15 points: (1) Expenses clearly relate to activities; (2) Expenses are adequate for the project; (3) 50% match is clear and defensible; (4) More information is provided where requested.
Future use 10 points: (1) Inherently interesting project; (2) Proposed lessons seem do-able for those without unique knowledge or skills; (3) Typical schools/sites have access to resources needed for proposed lessons.
Time line 10 points: (1) Clear, complete, and realistic; (2) Includes adequate time and other resources for school-site collaboration; (3) Allows for flexibility and response to students’ developing interests; (4) Includes adequate time and other resources for completing THV’s lesson plan templates.

Extra points available
Diversity One point for each of the following: districts, schools, and/or sites that have never received a THV grant; schools with numbers above their county average for students of color and/or students receiving free or reduced-cost lunch. One to three points based on New York State “need category.”
Special interests One to five points for proposals addressing (1) the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Eleanor Roosevelt’s proudest achievement, which will have its 60th anniversary in 2008 or (2) the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain anniversaries of exploration and invention to be observed in 2009.
