Join THV, Mill Street Loft, Scenic Hudson, and area teachers for a free, multi-disciplinary, experiential workshop.
Start the day in Scenic Hudson's River Center, Mill Street Loft's newest home.
After introductions and orientation, join others who work with the same age/grade level you do. Each group will:
- Explore Long Dock Park and discuss ideas for using its resources with students.
- Experience activities to use with students, such as nature journals that integrate language arts, science, and social studies.
- Have time to consult your colleagues and facilitators as you develop plans for your own classroom or other setting.
After refreshments and a wrap up, Mountain Top Outfitters will offer participants special rates for two-hour Hudson River kayak rentals -- $40 for a guided tour and $20 to paddle on your own. All equipment is included. Space must be reserved in advance. (See below under "Register.")
Facilitators
Elementary level -- Linda Houlihan Moriarty and Susan Hereth.

Linda (right) is committed to empowering youth through art and education; her record creating partnerships between schools and community groups and getting kids outside is unmatched. She is certified to teach K-12 art and all subjects pre-K-6. She worked at Beacon's South Avenue School and coordinated the district's magnet program for more than a decade.
As Scenic Hudson's education coordinator, Susan(top, with sunglasses) involves youngsters in hands-on lessons about ecology aiming to increase their awareness of the world around them and to create future stewards. Susan holds a geography degree from SUNY New Paltz and in 2010 received the highest recognition presented to the public by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) -- an Environmental Quality Award.
Intermediate -- Amanda Buhler (right), art teacher at Titusville Intermediate, works in many mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, metals, photography, computer graphics, and mosaics. She holds an MA in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz and is NYS certified to teach pre-K-12. Amanda has taught in many Mill Street Loft programs.
High school -- Roberto Romani teaches art and advises the Art Honor Society at Spackenkill High. He also coordinates the district's 7-12 art curriculum. Roberto has taught at Dutchess Arts Camp and is an adjunct at SUNY New Paltz. He holds degrees in liberal arts and humanities from the Universidad de Barcelona, a BA in art and sculpture from Buffalo State, and an MA in Art from SUNY New Paltz.
Amanda and Roberto co-chair the Region 7 chapter, NYS Art Teachers' Association.

The park & getting there
The River Center is part of a new 15-acre riverfront park with trails, a kayak pavilion, and more.
One of the most popular features is George Trakas's shoreline installation. Projecting over the river it's perfect for fishing, sunbathing, or viewing the Bay and Highlands.
Long Dock is a short walk from the Beacon train station or ferry.
Driving -- from Newburgh-Beacon Bridge go 1.8 miles south on Route 9D, right on Beekman Street, right on Red Flynn Drive (over railroad tracks), immediate left on Long Dock Road.
