![]() Hudson Valley, here we come. The Replica Ship Half Moon is a full-scaled operating replica of the Dutch ship of exploration that Henry Hudson sailed in 1609. Operated by New Netherland Museum, the Half Moon is a traveling museum that conducts programs about the unique history of the Dutch colony called New Netherland, a geographically vast colony that stretched from Delaware Bay, through the Hudson River, and on to the Connecticut River. The Half Moon conducts many programs that range from teacher trainings to week-long student programs. Our main program is the Voyage of Discovery, where twelve middle- and high-school students spend a week living aboard, operating the ship as Henry Hudson’s crew did, while also completing academic projects that examine the world around them. We are always looking for fresh ways of sharing our work with educators and students, which is why we are pleased to be presenting and attending THV's Place & the Digital Native. Albany secondary teacher Steve Linehan and Captain William (Chip) Reynolds will be leading a workshop for all attendees, plus welcoming 20 attendees (pre-registration required) aboard the Half Moon for a full-day hands-on experience. And hands-on activities include setting sails and standing watch just like in Henry Hudson's time. We will talk about related curricula and online opportunities to connect with us, such as:
