Thanks to AmeriCorps, Teaching the Hudson Valley has a 10-week internship beginning May 23 or June 6. We are looking for someone who is:
- An effective communicator.
- Familiar with or interested in the Hudson Valley's environment, culture, and/or history.
- Self-reliant, resourceful, and flexible.
- Experienced with online tools, social networks, and digital media.
- An excellent writer.
- Well organized and attentive to detail.
- Willing to learn and take initiative.
- Accepting of constructive feedback and guidance.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work on all THV initiatives including:
A three-day professional development program for teachers and site staff, “Place and the Digital Native: Using Technology and Social Media to Teach the Hudson Valley.” The assistant may be involved in all aspects of publicizing, preparing for, running, and following up from the institute.
Grant making. Since 2003, THV awards have allowed more than 10,000 K-12 students to visit and study Hudson Valley places. The assistant may help evaluate applications, advise teachers and sites receiving grants, and/or help publicize the grant program.
Resources. THV has a free on-line library of lessons and activities developed primarily by teachers and site staff within our network. We also publish occasional original material. The assistant may be involved in soliciting, reviewing, developing, and/or promoting such materials.
Ongoing administration and promotion. The assistant may help with a wide range of administrative and public relations tasks.
AmeriCorps internships are intended to provide young adults -- students or prospective students -- with professional development and hands-on experience with environmental, cultural, and historic resources and conservation projects along with access to innovative examples of partnerships and information for collaborative work and community building.
Benefits include a living stipend of $2000 distributed over the 10 week period and a Segal Education Award of $1,145 available upon completion of 10 weeks of service. The award may be used for student loans, tuition, or books.
